In the center of Bratislava you will find a sweet classic that has been known for generations. At LOCLUB we prepare a large steamed bun from scratch right in our kitchen. Inside it hides homemade plum jam and comes on a plate with poppy seeds, powdered sugar and melted butter.
This is not a finished product or a frozen bun. We wanted to include an honest sweet dish in a traditional Slovak form.
Big steamed bun in Bratislava, prepared from scratch
If you're looking for a big steamed bun in Bratislava , at LOCLUB you won't get a few small buns. We serve one large bun made from sourdough, which we prepare right here.
Before steaming, we fill it with homemade plum jam. Steaming ensures that the dough remains soft and fluffy, while the jam remains hidden in the middle.
Only after steaming does the final serving come. Sprinkle the bun with ground poppy seeds mixed with powdered sugar and pour over melted butter.
Without vanilla cream. We stuck with the Slovak classic
Steamed buns can be served in various ways. For example, the version with vanilla cream or vanilla sauce is well-known. However, at LOCLUB we have stuck to the form that is traditional in Slovakia.
It is the combination of plum jam, poppy seeds, sugar and butter that gives the dish the taste that many associate with home-made Slovak cuisine. That is why we did not unnecessarily change the recipe or supplement it with other sauces.
A large steamed bun can serve as a sweet spot after a meal, but thanks to its size, you can also order it as a separate sweet dish.
